Facilities Resource Limited are delighted to support the invaluable
work of the thousands of volunteer stewards in the south of England who devote time and energy to make public events
safe and successful.
As the Olympics 2012 draw near, the opportunities for individuals to contribute to the event,
make a valuable contribution to the community and to develop their own skills or personal qualities are increased. To make
that contribution worthwhile, individuals might need extra support so we have created this website resource.
This

Training Opportunities
Basingstoke College of Technology offer a range of courses for volunteers in the south of England, including:
• NCFE
Level 2 Certificate in Volunteering (distance learning course at your own pace and in your own time)
• SIA Door Security (requirement for SIA accreditation)
• Event Security
and Stewarding
• NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Volunteering (distance learning
course at your own pace and in your own time)
In the case of the NCFE Volunteering and Conflict Management
awards, a limited number of grants are available to cover the cost of the course. Please ask the College for details.

Marlborough Jazz Festival - one
of Europe's leading live music events, usually held around July every year, seek volunteers to help steward this prestigious

The London Olympics and Paralympics

Get Concerned Help The Aged and Age Concern support older people. Get involved
in befriending, help with someone’s shopping, or visit an older person in hospital.
Wave of Kindness CSV’s Make a Difference Day in October each year sees
a wave of kindness flood Britain. You can sign up now to keep updated on what’s happening and even start planning your
own activity.
Community Goodwill Get involved with WRVS’s work providing practical support
for older people. Be a good neighbour and collect shopping or help out at a local hospital, shop or café - just a few
of the ways you can volunteer to make a huge difference to someone’s life.
Walking for Health There are over 600 walk schemes across the country - get involved
and get fit by taking part or volunteering as a Walk Leader. It’s fun and free!
Action for Children Action for Children is out there helping the most vulnerable
children and young people get through injustice, deprivation and inequality. Be there for them too - from mentoring and befriending
to driving and fundraising.
CHICKS away Get involved with the life-enhancing experience that CHICKS
offers to disadvantaged children by volunteering at a beautiful countryside retreat for six days.
Lend your mind for research Have fun, feel challenged and help Alzheimer's Society with
important future research. Alzheimer's Society has teamed up with the BBC to launch the world's biggest brain training
trial, Brain Test Britain. It's your last chance to get involved as recruitment will close in February.
Share what others waste Does seeing packaged food go to waste drive you mad? FareShare
need volunteer drivers, navigators or food sorters to help them redistribute surplus food within communities.
Youth at Risk Coach a young person and support them to transform their lives.
You'll get intensive training so you can spend time with a young person and help them through issues so that they can
look towards a bright future.
Improve a life Hospice care
helps people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses to live their lives to the full before dying. Volunteers make a big
difference to patients and their families in a wide variety of ways including gardening, serving meals and DIY.
